Dr. John Henahan offers his optometry patients the benefit of more than twenty years of comprehensive experience as an eye doctor, garnered at leading eye care institutions and ophthalmic practices around the country.
Despite this advanced eye care technology, Dr. Henahan believes that nothing is more important than nurturing an old-fashioned one-on-one relationship with his patients.
Unlike other area practices, Dr. Henahan dedicates 30 minutes to each patient eye exam. As an eye doctor, he believes that only by spending sufficient time with each eye care patient can their vision needs truly be met.
Dr. Henahan recognized his optometry vocation early, deciding that he wanted to become an optometrist in the 11th grade. To that end, he attended Siena College, graduating cum laude with a B.S. degree in 1987. He was accepted to the prestigious SUNY College of Optometry, earning his doctorate in 1991. While there, Dr. Henahan became one of a few students ever to have his optometric clinical studies published in a major eye care journal.
Following graduation, Dr. Henahan was appointed an optometry fellow at one of the nation’s most selective postdoctoral optometric residency programs, a joint venture involving the New England College of Optometry, Harvard Medical School and Eye Health Services (a large mulit-specialty ophthalmolgy practice). During his optometry fellowship, Dr. Henahan furthered his study and training in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases with leading optometrists and ophthalmologists at Harvard-affiliated clinics and private centers.
After completing his optometry residency in 1992, Dr. Henahan was named Optometry Clinical Director of the Eye Surgery Center of Louisiana, a prominent ophthalmology practice in New Orleans, where he participated in US FDA trials of excimer laser technology that is now the industry standard for the LASIK (laser vision correction) procedure used today. He also lectured throughout the southeastern United States and at national optometric conventions on topics of eye disease and laser vision correction.
From 1994 through 2000, Dr. Henahan served on the faculty of the Louisiana State University Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology as Director of Low Vision Services. As one of just two such optometric specialists in Louisiana at the time, he assisted more than 2,000 patients in the rehabilitation of severe vision loss.
After seven years in New Orleans–seeking a more family-oriented community in which to raise their children–Dr. Henahan and his wife Lisa moved to Peachtree City, where he joined a local Peachtree City practice as an optometrist. Dr. Henahan and Lisa feel that they have found an ideal community for raising their sons Owen and Liam, both Georgia born. The area has become home, and inspired Dr. Henahan to open Spectrum Eyecare in Peachtree City in the spring of 2008.
When not busy providing eye care and eye exams at Spectrum Eyecare, Dr. Henahan can be seen around Peachtree City with his family.
